WHY PACE IS ASKED FIRST

Form is only comparable to form at the same effort.

Your mechanics change on purpose when you run harder. Reports are grouped by pace band so a comparison across weeks means something.

Easy
Conversational. You could speak in full sentences the whole time. Easy-pace form is the most repeatable baseline and the best band for tracking change over weeks.
Steady
Comfortably hard. Short sentences only. Steady running usually sits between your easy mechanics and your fast mechanics, so compare it only with other steady clips.
Tempo / threshold
Hard but controlled. A few words at a time. Cadence and contact time shift naturally at threshold, so a tempo clip will not match your easy numbers even when nothing has changed.
Interval / fast
Repeatable hard efforts with recovery between them. Fast running changes almost every measurable value, so this band is only useful against other fast clips.
